Meet Our Editors

Michele Bové,  Assistant Editor

Michele Bové, a history major at Colgate University, worked at the New York District Attorney’s Office before beginning her publishing career at Oxford University Press.  At S&S, she has worked with Chris Ballard, Melody Beattie, Dr. Dave Hnida, Jim Knipfel, Paul Malmont, Matthew Reilly, Elissa Schappell, Beverly Swerling, and Richard Whittle. She is interested in acquiring narrative nonfiction, particularly in history, politics, current events, sports, and pop culture, and literary, historical, and commercial fiction. A lifelong Yankee fan and soccer player, she runs for the Prospect Park Track Club and plays in a bocce league at Union Hall.

Molly Lindley, Assistant Editor

Molly Lindley was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona before moving east to attend Smith College. She joined Simon & Schuster in 2009, after previous stints as a literary assistant at a boutique agency and in editorial at HarperCollins. A former American Studies major and fluent speaker of French, she is fascinated by stories, both fiction and nonfiction, that seek to explain why people think and act the way they do. Her genres of interest include literary fiction from around the world, narrative nonfiction, memoir, popular culture, modern history, sociology, psychology, and humor.

Johanna Li, Associate Editor

Johanna Li is an Associate Editor whose particular areas of interest include narrative nonfiction, cultural history, literary fiction, biography and memoir, popular culture, and sociology.  During her tenure at S&S she has had the pleasure of working with a wide range of authors including Ben & Jerry, Benson Bobrick, Jonathan Eig, John Gierach, Reeve Lindbergh, Mario Livio, David Roberts, Jerry Stiller, and Barry Strauss.  She can usually be found in a museum, library, or art studio and drinks tea, not coffee.

Karyn Marcus, Senior Editor  MORE►

Karyn comes to Simon & Schuster from St. Martin’s Press, where she was an editor with Thomas Dunne Books since 2008. Among the books she has acquired and edited are The Age of Autism by Mark Blaxill and Dan Olmstead; Do One Green Thing by Mindy Pennybacker; Isabella Blow: A Life in Fashion by Lauren Goldstein Crowe; Wicked Autumn by G. M. Malliet; and Whip Smart by Melissa Febos, a memoir about a young woman’s transition from college graduate to professional dominatrix.

 Ben Loehnen, Senior Editor at Simon & Schuster, acquires non-fiction across a range of subjects, including business, psychology, science, nature, religion, narrative non-fiction, and memoir. 

Sarah Knight, Senior Editor MORE►

 Before arriving at Simon & Schuster in 2010, Sarah worked as an assistant to a venerable New York literary agent, as a bookseller at an independent bookstore, and held editorial positions with Scribner, Henry Holt & Co., and Shaye Areheart Books. She has edited and championed books across a wide array of categories, including literary and commercial fiction—with a special emphasis on thrillers, crime, and suspense—as well as narrative nonfiction, memoir, travel & food writing, pop culture, humor, and self-help. 

Thomas LeBien, Vice President and Senior Editor  MORE►

Thomas LeBien joined Simon & Schuster in 2011 as a Vice President and Senior Editor specializing in history and other masterly works of nonfiction. His focus is on a new generation of leading authorities, in academia and elsewhere, as well as works on a wide range of subjects, such as sports, business, and science.

 Bob Bender is a Vice President and Senior Editor who has been at S&S since 1981.  He acquires a wide range of mainly serious nonfiction, including biography and autobiography, history, current events, popular science, popular culture (primarily film and music), business narrative and investing, and books about baseball.

 Priscilla Painton is the Executive Editor—Nonfiction of Simon & Schuster. Since joining Simon & Schuster, Priscilla has acquired a range of books, including bestselling biographies of Michelle Obama and Ted Kennedy, the secret diary of one of the most powerful Communists in China, which became an international bestseller, as well as books on history, politics, science, religion, economics, and American society.

Jonathan Karp was named Executive Vice President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster in June 2010. He is responsible for the editorial and publishing activities of the imprint.

Alice Mayhew, Vice President and Editorial Director  MORE►

 Alice Mayhew’s particular interests are history, politics, social policy, biography and philosophy, but she has acquired books on show business, for example Sam Irvin’s biography of Kay Thompson, and popular culture, for example Paco Underhill’s Why We Buy and What Women Want.

Anjali Singh, Senior Editor  MORE►

Anjali Singh is a Senior Editor at Simon & Schuster. She began her publishing career in 1997 as a book scout for Mary Anne Thompson. Anjali will be casting a wide net for all kinds of nonfiction and fiction—literary, graphic, and commercial.

Nick Greene, Assistant Editor

Born and raised in Detroit, Nick came to Simon & Schuster from the Columbia Publishing Course in 2010. Since then he's worked with a range of fiction and nonfiction writers, from John Irving to Chris Matthews to Han Han. He's acquiring narrative nonfiction on unusual topics in politics and the arts, as well as literary and commercial fiction from emerging voices. Before joining Simon & Schuster, Nick graduated from Brown University with a degree in creative  nonfiction writing and made the rounds of publishing, interning at Scholastic, McSweeney’s and n+1.

Michael Szczerban, Associate Editor  MORE►

Michael has collaborated with Marianne Leone, Adam Bertocci, David Talbot, Ron Rosenbaum, Brian DeLeeuw, Max Cleland, Karl Rove, AJ Jacobs, and others. Recent projects include Knowing JesseTwo Gentlemen of Lebowski, and the Pulp History series.  He is interested in commercial and literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, science, technology, food, and adventure, and is passionate about the intersection of technology and culture, little-known true stories, and writers who explore why we are the way we are. He holds degrees in information systems and English from Carnegie Mellon.

Trish Todd, Vice President and Executive Editor  MORE►

Trish Todd joined Simon & Schuster in February 2011 as Vice President, Executive Editor acquiring popular fiction, practical nonfiction, and autobiography. At Simon & Schuster, Trish’s fiction list includes Carol Anshaw’s Carry the One, which follows three adult siblings over the course of 25 years; Vaddey Ratner’s In the Shadow of the Banyan about a little girl who must come to maturity in the killing fields of Cambodia; Claire McMillan’s contemporary retelling of The House of Mirth entitled Gilded Age; and Taylor Polites’s Southern Gothic The Rebel Wife set in Reconstruction Alabama.

Sammy Perlmutter, Assistant Editor

Sammy Perlmutter joined Simon & Schuster in early 2011 and has since worked with a range of authors writing on topics from business to baseball, from commercial fiction to cooking. Originally from Los Angeles, Sammy studied the history of art at Cornell University where he also served as associate editor of the daily paper. He is interested in pop culture, narrative nonfiction, fine art and illustration, graphic novels and other fiction.

Jofie Ferrari-Adler, Senior Editor  MORE►

 Jofie Ferrari-Adler joined Simon & Schuster as a senior editor in 2010. Previously an editor at Grove/Atlantic, Viking Penguin, and the independent house Four Walls Eight Windows, he has been a book editor for ten years. Jofie acquires both fiction and narrative nonfiction, with an emphasis on politics, current affairs, modern history, military history, sports, and a range of narrative journalism.

Jonathan Cox,  Editorial Assistant

Jonathan Cox joined Simon & Schuster as an editorial assistant in February 2012. He previously interned at W.W. Norton and attended Middlebury College, where he majored in English and philosophy. Jon enjoys the writings of David Foster Wallace and the monologues of Spalding Gray. He grew up in Central Massachusetts in a small town named Rutland.

Marysue Rucci, Vice President and Editor-in-Chief  MORE►

Marysue Rucci was named Editor-in-Chief, VP of Simon & Schuster in April 2012.  Her responsibilities include the design and oversight of Simon & Schuster’s fiction list. Marysue returns to Simon & Schuster following her post as Vice President, Editorial Director of G.P. Putnam’s Sons.  Prior to that, Marysue spent thirteen years at Simon & Schuster, most recently as Executive Editor, Vice President.

Emily Graff,  Editorial Assistant

Emily Graff joined Simon & Schuster in April 2012. She previously worked as an editorial assistant at The Penguin Press and focused on non-fiction titles, including books in American history, biography, and current affairs.  Emily is a graduate of Harvard College, where she majored in History and Literature and served as senior editor of Fifteen MinutesThe Harvard Crimson's weekend magazine. She is interested in commercial and literary fiction, as well as memoir and narrative nonfiction.
